Golnoor captain Farhad Sabouri: our aim is a young, motivated team
Farhad Sabouri, captain of the Golnoor basketball team, told a Fars sports correspondent in Isfahan that the side's aim this season is to build a young, motivated team — one that is better in every game than in the last. He spoke a day before Golnoor meet Esteghlal Tehran in week three of Iran's men's Premier League, on Thursday evening, 14 Aban, from 16:15 at Mokhaberat Hall in Isfahan.
A young team on the move
Sabouri said the opening weeks of the season had been encouraging: "Our goal this season is to build a young and motivated team. We have had a promising run in the first weeks, and we try to perform better in every game than we did in the previous one."
Energy, the team's main asset
The Golnoor captain named the players' motivation and energy as the team's greatest strength, saying the squad are working together to find more cohesion, cut down on mistakes and produce better team performances.
A close, attractive league
He rated the level of this season's Premier League highly and said the teams have come into the competition well prepared: "The competition between the teams is very close, and that is what has made the league more attractive."
Cohesion and mutual understanding
Sabouri said the coaching staff's work in training is focused mainly on team cohesion and tactical matters. His mutual understanding with head coach Aran Davoudi, he added, helps both sides read situations better and communicate more effectively on technical issues.
A tough test against Esteghlal
Looking ahead to the match, he said: "Esteghlal are a team we respect, and we will certainly have a difficult game ahead. I hope we can carry out our tactical plans on the floor with high concentration and a compact defence, and we are looking for a good result."
The target at the end of the season
On the team's ambitions, Sabouri said: "Being among the contenders is certainly motivating for us. Our aim is to keep working, and with everyone in the team pulling together, to be in a worthy position among the contenders at the end of the season."
